You know SUVs are bad and nasty....
...and you should just be like me a drive a CIvic, which will help you avoid most accidents through its maneuverability, but is still safe enough to not get you killed whern an 18-wheeler fucker or a distracted caddy crunches into you. But here's an in-depth reminder of why (originally printed in the New Yorker, January 2004).

Well, I wouldn't exactly call that article "in-depth". Anyhoo, I just bought a Saturn VUE. I didn't want to drive cross-country in my 10 yr old Saturn SL2, and I needed to carry some stuff that I didn't want to leave with the movers. I was going to rent a minivan for the drive, but the one-way rental was about $700. I decided to put that toward a down payment on the VUE, and gave up my dream of buying a cute little roadster. I like the characterization of SUV buyers. It reminds me of most people I know. And I'm certainly vain and self-absorbed. But that's not why I bought an SUV. That's why I bought an SUV with leather interior, electric sunroof, and a 6 disc CD player.
