Don't cry for me, Bahamanians!

The latest decision in the ever-more-complex Anna Nicole saga came down today, and I have two questions:

1. Why was the judge crying as he delivered the verdict?
2. Why is her body decomposing faster than expected?

This story just keeps giving and giving. It's got it all -- love, sex, money, death, intrigue, politics (she won before the Supreme Court, don't forget), international diplomacy. Man, if I were still in the newsroom, I would feel Like His Girl Friday right now...

I have to say I find this whole thing fascinating - the jurisdictional questions alone are so complex. It's also frustrating that media attention and public opinion are clearly influencing the judicial proceedings - witness Judge Larry Seidlin.

Why was he crying? Because he's unprofessional, and his inquiry deviated from the legal issues related to disposition of the body and delved into the emotions and personalities involved in the case, as well as the paternity case over which he has no jurisdiction, and into mass speculation over drug use and murder allegations. It shouldn't have taken more than one or two days to resolve that matter, but he was putting on a show, while the body lay decomposing in the morgue.

The body is decomposing faster than expected because they delayed the embalming in deference to a California court order that the body be preserved for collection of DNA, at the request of Larry Birkhead. It would have been delayed even longer if the Medical Examiner had not intervened.
